Zimbabwe breaks the T20I world record by amassing a staggering 344 runs in the Africa qualifier.

The remarkable milestone was reached on Wednesday during a match with Gambia at the Ruaraka Sports Club Ground in Nairobi.

Zimbabwe’s national cricket team has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by setting a new world record for the highest team total in T20 International cricket. They scored an impressive 344 runs in their 20 overs at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub Regional Qualifier B.

The remarkable milestone was achieved on Wednesday in a match against Gambia at Nairobi’s Ruaraka Sports Club Ground.

The Chevrons eclipsed the previous record of 314/3, which had been set by Nepal against Mongolia in 2023. Right from the beginning, Zimbabwe’s fierce batting tore through the Gambia bowling lineup, signaling their determination to take control.

Captain Sikandar Raza led the charge with a breathtaking innings of 133* off 43 balls, while key contributions came from Brian Bennett (50 off 26), wicketkeeper Tadiwanashe Marumani (62 off 19), and Clive Madande, who powered through with an unbeaten 53 from just 17 balls.

“Everyone played a crucial role, and we’re ecstatic about making history,” Raza expressed after the game. His innings included an impressive 15 sixes, boasting an extraordinary strike rate of 309.30.

Marumani’s explosive innings featured 4 sixes and eight fours, while Madande achieved a remarkable strike rate of 311.76.

Before this record-setting performance, the highest T20I totals included Nepal’s 314/3, India’s 297/6, Zimbabwe’s own 286/5, and Afghanistan’s 278/3.

Zimbabwe’s thrilling batting effort puts them in an excellent position as they advance in the qualifier, with several players delivering at astonishing strike rates.

This record marks a significant achievement in T20 International cricket, placing Zimbabwe at the forefront for the highest team score.
