A family came from Lahore to protest and they were the first to reach D Chowk. The boy in the family was wearing a shirt that read “Qaidi No. 804” on the back. The woman told reporters that she was a supporter of Imran Khan and had come out to demand his release. Though the protest is officially scheduled for tomorrow, they were the first to reach D Chowk today.
When asked by reporters if the man was scared, he said he wasn’t and even shook hands with police, saying “they are our brothers”. Media reports also indicated that Section 144 was invoked in Islamabad. The woman replied that it was their right to protest and that everyone had the right to protest.
The man expressed hope that everything would be resolved in three or four days and Imran Khan would be released soon. Their five-year-old son was also with them despite the exams, the woman added. “We thought we could reschedule the exam later, but we had to go out and leave Khan Sahib,” he said.
The woman also spoke about her unwavering support for Imran Khan, saying, “He cares about people”. He hoped that the situation would improve in a few days and that Imran Khan would soon be released.
This was the first family to join the PTI protest in D-Chowk. Roads in Islamabad have been blocked on all sides and containers have been set up by the police. The PTI has prepared the final call for the protest tomorrow, so it remains unclear how the protest will unfold.
